JOB SUMMARY:

The Dental Assistant supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials; passing instruments and materials; performing procedures in compliance with the standards and general dental practice act. This individual performs basic supportive dental procedures specified by the state dental practice act and by rule of the Georgia Board of Dentistry under the direct supervision of a licensed Dentist.

Summary of General Duties:

  •  Helps with administrative tasks in the office such as scheduling and record-keeping
  • Prepares and captures X-rays and CBCT of clients.
  • Greets clients upon arrival
  • Advises clients on proper oral hygiene
  • Assists with simple, complex and emergency dental procedures
  • Sterilizes equipment and instruments and follows proper hygienic protocol
  • Manages the inventory of dental equipment and supplies
  • Assists the Dentist with accurate charting. 
  • Reviews the Dentist schedule and helps to maintain patient flow throughout the day. 
  • Reviews the client’s chart prior to Dentist’s arrival and anticipates the Dentist’s needs for each client. 
  • Sets-up and prepares dental equipment and instrumentation for procedures in accordance with established regulations and guidelines. 
  • Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist’s access; suctioning; passing instruments (four handed dentistry). 
  • Provide materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient’s mouth.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Monitors the schedules and helps to fill cancellations internally and through re-call. 
  • Provides excellent customer service to help ensure a smooth and comfortable visit for the client. 
  • Disinfect operatories after each treatment. 
  • Adheres to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPPA laws and guidelines with regards to client’s records. 
  • Follows OSHA and company safety policies and procedures 
  • Ensure treatment areas are fully stocked. 
  • Follows laboratory procedures according to office protocol
  • Capture and processing impressions using traditional methods (pouring and trimming study casts) and scanner
  • Helps dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR/BLS certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory.
  • Completion of other duties as assigned by Dentist


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of good oral hygiene
  • Knowledge and understanding of fabricating temporary restorations; cleaning and polishing removable prosthetics.
  • Capable of working quickly and efficiently under pressure
  • Knowledge of various dental procedures, instruments, tooth numbers and quadrants
  • Ability to assist with basic dental procedures such as cleaning, X-rays and dental impressions
  • Ability to perform office management tasks such as scheduling appointments, and ordering supplies
  • Knowledge of dental technology
  • Excellent communication skills and organizational skills

  

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED and graduate from a Dental Assisting school  is required.
  •  A minimum of 3+  years of Dental Assisting experience is required.
  • Current CPR Card required
  • Dentrix experience is required.
  • Previous experience with HIV, Infectious Disease or public health setting is preferred. 
  • Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) preferred
  • EFDAs with certification must be a graduate from a Dental Assisting Program approved by the State Board.
